Percussion vs Pressure
Flaking Percussion, Parallel over Percussion(POP) and FOG Pressure flaking are three different variations of the same art form of flintknapping. We do not believe one is superior to the other. You can not take the grading system scores of percussion and compare it to pressure, that would be similar to comparing apples to oranges. As we discussed in the flaking pattern section of the subjective judging, the flaking patterns between the two can vary greatly. We believe to be considered an elite flintknapper, one should be proficient in both forms of flintknapping, percussion and pressure. |
